Dimensions

Pendant height: 1.73 Inches; Pendant width: 0.52 Inches

This pendant features a crystal of golden barite and a crystal of natural green peridot. The barite measures 0.50 x 0.42 inches (1.28 x 10.6 mm) and weighs in at 8 carats. The peridot crystal measures 0.55 x 0.47 inches (14.0 x 11.98.5 cm) and weighs in at 11.3 carats.

The top stone is a golden yellow barite. Barite is a somewhat obscure gem. As a mineral, it serves as an important source ore of barium, but it does rarely come in gem quality crystals. These can be either a golden yellow or blue. This is one of the former stones, showing a rich gold color, matched with excellent clarity.

Peridot is a stone which has been known and valued since ancient times. In the ancient world it was known as chrysolite (and possibly also as 'topaz'), and sourced from an island today known as Saint John's Isle in the Red Sea. Today, Pakistan has risen as one of the main sources of peridot--stones from there often come in rich green colors and occasionally large sizes. It's not very common for it to come in nice crystals, and I was very happy to come across this piece, with its excellent crystal form and a nice pointed termination.
