As smoke rises on a chilly winter Sunday, the good fairyfolk that live in the northern woods gather at a small chapel built by tiny hardworking hands. Salutations and the flutter of wings can be heard throughout the morning and also the wonderful smell of fresh breads and homemade pies to be shared with all the woodland creatures at the annual winter feast....

This chapel was hand carved by myself in my studio using various gouges and knives. Details such as shingles and little nail holes in the planks on the houses really give this piece character. The wood I used is actually bark from a long dead Cottonwood tree found here in upper Michigan. The "moss" covered roof and bricks are detailed in the finest acrylics, and piece is sealed in a non toxic water based Poly coat for protection. Stands approx 24 1/2" tall and has a balanced nail hole in the back for wall hanging. Piece is signed as well. :)A perfect gift for the lover of fantasy and fairies.

Cottonwood Bark info:
Each layer of bark is paper thin, and equals 1 year of growth for the tree. Some thicker pieces are well over 150 years old. The layers are compressed over the life of the tree and are quite dense when harvested.
