Mechanical Pencil ships with instructions for use in a hard clear topped case for protection or gift giving.

Handcrafted Mechanical Pencils Chrome Plating
Chrome plating is extremely durable plating. Under normal use, this plating should hold up for many, many years. Chrome is durable, beautiful and the choice of many of our customers. It is a "go to" plating.

Handmade Mechanical Pencils Birdseye Maple
Bird's Eye is a type of figure that occurs within several kinds of wood, most notably in hard maple. It has a distinctive pattern that resembles tiny, swirling eyes disrupting the smooth lines of grain. It is somewhat reminiscent of a burl, but it is quite different: the small knots that make the burl are missing. It is not known what causes the phenomenon.

This extremely rare bird’s-eye figure is in demand worldwide and has been for over 150 years. In many foreign countries, bird’s-eye maple is considered a status symbol and ranks among the most expensive woods in the world. In addition to the uniqueness of the bird’s-eye figure, it is only found in limited localities in the United States and Canada which adds to the demand for this maple tree anomaly.

Ink Pen Crafting Process
The Industrial Style Mechanical Pencil is constructed first by hand selecting each piece and then cutting, drilling and turning the pen to its final shape on a lathe. The pen is then sanded 7 times with progressively finer grits (150, 220, 320, 400, 600, and 800) of sandpaper, to achieve a very smooth surface and a diameter tolerance of .001 - .002 in, for a smooth transition with the metal parts. Wood pens then have 10 coats of finish applied and the ink pen is sanded again 9 times with sandpaper to 12,000 grits to a high shine or satin finish. Acrylic and Tru-Stone pencils are sanded 9 times with sandpaper to 12,000 grits for a high shine and then a polish is added

FAQs

I handcraft all the pens on this website. No two handmade items are exactly alike. Variations in color, shading, texture, shape and grain are inherent in a handmade item. No two items are alike, so that every single one is one-of-a-kind. This means that every handmade item you purchase is also one-of-a-kind. What’s not to like about that?
All of our wood products are purchased through legally licensed providers that provide exotic woods from sustainable forest product areas.
All of our pen pricing is based on the price of the materials involved in the making of the pen. You may see two pens that are the same style but priced differently. The price of the finishes plus the cost of the Woods or Acrylic affect the pricing. Chrome plating while durable is less expensive than say Antique Pewter. A more common wood is cheaper than a rare exotic such as Burl. All pens are not created equal. The time involved for the final steps of sanding and sizing for an exact fit are the most important. My pens may at first seem a little more expensive but the finished quality of fit and finish are very high and require more time and skill to complete. I redo and dis-guard pens and parts all the time that do not meet my standards.
Yes, all of our pens are one of a kind, no large production. When a pen is purchased, the item page changes to out of stock because it is the only one there is.
If you see a pen you like, let me know, I will give you a price, and estimated ship date. Please note that although the pen I make will be similar there will be slight changes in color and grain as each wood or acrylic piece is unique
Yes, you can, if you see a pen style you like and a wood or acrylic you like on another pen let us know and we will give you a price, and estimated ship date
We currently only sell and ship to the 48 continental USA states by USPS.
We accept returns for 14 days from the date you receive your order. We do not pay for return shipping unless the pen is defective.
Every ballpoint and rollerball pen I sell uses standard Cross or Parker refills. The fountain pens use Waterman Style, and all are available at office supply and stationery stores worldwide
Yes I do, any upcoming shows will be found on my homepage under announcements. I currently am only doing shows in Massachusetts.
