Description

This one-of-a-kind table runner was inspired by my time as an artist in residence at the Tomorrow River Homestead in Nelsonville, WI.
While I was living and weaving in the village, at every social function, community dinner, farm party, potluck, and over coffee at Ruby Coffee Roasters on Saturday morning, the conversation inevitably turned back to the water.

There’s a particular side-effect to living so close to the land in a state that prides itself on dairy farming. It’s the struggle brought on by sharing a watershed with the truly American business that is the CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation). Villagers hope their water isn't contaminated, and try to plan for the worst.

I started to look for yarn colors and woven structures that evoke the water. Something swirling and rippling, but a little obscured, a little muddy. I chose a twill that creates soft curves and used two thicknesses of yarn so they bubble up to the surface with texture. The thick yarn is a cotton from Detroit-based natural dye collective Color Wheel. Blue is from indigo and brown comes from black walnuts. I planned and warped and wove and the result is this Tomorrows Water Table runner.

*NOTE: this item is currently on display at the Tomorrow River Homestead and therefore may take an extra week or so to ship out.

Additional policies

You might want to know:

I wash all items before sending them out to you.

I do live with a cat and her hair may manage to get on/into the item or packaging even after I wash it. It seems like the hair is sentient and knows how to climb table legs.

I don't use wheat gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, soy or dairy products in my weaving process. I do however use them in my home (which is my studio) so be warned.

All my handwoven items are unique and one-of a kind. As with all handmade items you may find slight differences and the "hand of the maker" in each piece. If you are unhappy with the item you receive I am happy to do an exchange to make it right!
