This is a traditional Japanese Tea bowl thrown in the winter style with the rim just a touch closed to help keep in the warmth. Following traditional style, this bowl has a dip in the middle of the bottom to allow for any stray loose tea leaves to gather. The hip is a nice, gradual slope to the bottom where there are 3 round feet clustered near the center to increase the illusion that the bowl is floating on, rather than anchored to, a surface.
The sides are shaped so that the there is a slight increase in diameter toward the top to allow a very comfortable fit in your cupped hands. As you can tell, I took a lot of time in designing, throwing and trimming this bowl. See? I can do "real" ceramics, too! :)
I tis about 3.5" tall (including feet) and about 4.75" wide at the rim. It holds 18 ounces at the rim and 17 oz comfortably.
The glaze is the Speckled Brown in a nice, glossy finish, creating a very natural color.
As with any of my other ceramics, this is food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe. It is numbered (2088), signed and stamped on the bottom.
