This lovely lady measures about 1.75 inches x 1.63 inches, made of hard enamel in shiny nickel, and features a cut-out/punch-out in her design. She has 2 silver butterfly clasps and my signature back-stamp.

Carrying a small section of glittering web, she seeks to share the story of the Christmas Spider with the world, decked in finery inspired by Eastern European embroidery and clothing, and the bright contrast of holly berries on snow in her coloring.

A poor widow and her children had tended a young pine tree, helping it grow so that by Christmas time, they could have a tree within their home. However, winter came and they were too poor to afford decorating it. Thus, Christmas Eve came and the family fell asleep, saddened by the knowledge that their tree would be bare come Christmas morning.

The spiders in their house saw the family's sadness, and decided to solve the matter themselves. They spun and spun, draping the tree in their ornate webs, festooning it with ropes of beautiful silk.

Come morning, the mother and children woke and saw their tree, and watched as the sunlight streamed through the windows and hit the webs, transforming them into glittering and shining patterns of gold and silver. The beautiful sight cheered the family, and all had a happy holiday, feeling more content with their lives.

The story is Eastern European, and is the supposed origin story for tinsel. It's also the reason you see so many spider-shaped ornaments, which are tokens to remember the kind spiders that helped the family. End result is that spiders are lucky, especially for Christmas!
