| MULLEIN TEA | Lung health

➸ Mullein may have been one of the herbs used at a nearby sanatorium, Hygiene house, that operated nearby our farm in the late 1800’s. It was one of the places people came who suffered from tuberculosis. Mullein tea is still great for heavy coughs, chest colds, asthma and bronchitis. It soothes mucus membranes and has many respiratory benefits. Ironically, it can also be smoked as well.

➸ The felty leaves of this helpful plant are high in mucilage and contain an immunosuppressant compound that soothes, mucous membranes, inflamed throats, and irritated skin. Mullein is an expectorant. This means that the herb helps the body remove excess mucus from lungs and soothes the mucus membranes with its emollient properties. Both the leaves and the flowers of the plant contain saponins, natural detergents which make a cough more productive, releasing and expelling phlegm from the walls of the lungs, and mucilage, a gelatinous substance which soothes any irritated membrane.

DIRECTIONS: Take a spoonful of dried mullein leaf, add to a tea cup or loose leaf tea infuser. Let steep for 10 minutes or longer. Strain with a very fine strainer like cheesecloth. (Mullein has very fine hairs that can be irritating if not strained out.) Enjoy. Don't forget to enjoy a several deep breaths of the steam from your cup of mullein tea.

LISTING: 3 ounces dried mullein leaf. Sustainably harvested and grown on our farm using organic practices.

NOTE: Tea does not come in the glass container.

This is an excellent Goldenrod tincture. Others haven’t had a flavor as nice as this and I’ve taken Goldenrod on and off for years. I take it for allergies and other types of inflammation. It certainly helps. I still have to keep allergy pills stocked for severe reactions but I’m able to cut down on them which is wonderful.

This makes the most delicious iced tea. It’s very fresh and tastes better than anything I’ve found at the organic grocery stores! Sometimes I add hibiscus or rose hips, lemon or orange, raw honey. Thanks Janine! I really appreciate this.
