Here's a Very Rare piece of American Maritime History,

Has the original Brass marker plate, on the top panel,
that reads:
PAT. AUG. 20, 1901
31036, (Serial No.)

This is a very old, hand-cranked/pumped,
The Horn and Bellows are contained in a wooden box,
The Horn has a folding crank with wooden handle.

This unique fog horn was manufactured by the L.D.Lothrop Co., in Gloucester, Mass. The fog horn was invented by Mr. Llewellyn Day Lothrop, born in Appleton, Maine in March of 1836. he fought in the Civil War & went on to found the L.D.Lothrop Co., around 1880. He invented different swivels & hooks for fishing, but was best known for the Famous,
Lothrop PATENT Fog Horn.

The horn measures, 20.75" long x 9.5" wide x 16.75" tall;
and still has the original red paint, with the orig. black
Lothrop Patent Fog Horn, stamped onto each side of the box.
The leather strap is torn from the box, but I do have the strap. The horn bellows may need some attention, as the hand crank is a little stiff.
