Antique Marcasite Bow Pin: This dainty bow dates to the early 1930's. Measuring 1 1/3" x 1/3" it is made of sterling silver and marcasite. The brooch is a stylized bow and the back is stamped sterling. It is in excellent condition with a working clasp.

Marcasite is the white form of "Iron Pyrite" and you may know the "Yellow Iron Pyrite" as Fool's Gold. The Swiss began using Marcasite in the late 1700's to replace Diamonds that were forbidden by Sumptuary Laws . It was again popular in the Georgian Period and later the Great Depression. No less popular today, this fine vintage piece can be yours.
