This 1963 calendar was illustrated by Gil Elvgren, one of the most highly regarded pin up illustrators of the 20th century. Twelve months worth of provocative (yet modest) beauties have real tongue in cheek captions, like "Men at Work", "A Sharp Lookout" and "Charming". This particular calendar was produced as a holiday give-away for Calkins Distributing Division in Spokane, Washington. It is spiral bound with a wire coil, approximately 10"x12" and in excellent condition.

Gil Elvgren, a graduate of the Minneapolis Art Institute, first belonged to the stable of artists at Stevens and Gross, the most prestigious ad agency in Chicago before working for Louis Dow Publishing as a calendar illustrator. Around 1944, Gil was approached by Brown and Bigelow, a firm that still dominates the field in producing calendars and advertising specialties. Gil's Brown and Bigelow images all contain his cursive signature. By the terms of Elvgren's contract with B&B, he would turn out twenty calendar girls each year, ranging from cowgirls of the golden west to sultry sirens of the Riviera. His ideal model had the face of a 15 year old and the body of a 20 year old. He died in 1980. Today, his original paintings sell for six figures.
