Hand painted Porcelain Nut or Condiment Bowl (Moritz Zdekauer blank), Art Deco radish design, gilded ball feet, and iridescent lustre interior. Signed “Harmon” by artist, the design is playful with a touch of elegance.

Porcelain blanks were made by the Moritz Zdekauer porcelain factory in Austria around the turn of the 19th century, and decorated them by hand sometime later, probably the 1920s. The inside is an iridescent luster, while the exterior sports a creamy cafe au lait colored mineral glaze. A border of black brackets accent the lovely reddish-orange radishes (or beets?) & their ruffled greens. A trio of ball feet gilded in matte gold completes the beautiful design.

Matching salt cellars are available in a separate listing: https://www.etsy.com/listing/65170902/art-deco-hp-lustreware-open-salt-cellars

I am a huge fan of American and European hand-painted china, and began my own collection as a child when my Swedish great-grandmother gave me (& each of her descendants) a hand-painted chocolate cup...

:: Condition & Measurements ::

Condition is excellent; other than a bit of gold wearing off the bottom of the ball feet, there are no chips, cracks, nicks, crazing, repairs, etc.

Bowl measures 5.25" in diameter [13.3cm] and 1.5" high [3.8cm].

Maker’s mark stamped in green on underside, “M.Z. Austria” with the crown & double eagle insignia; hand signed by “Harmon”.

:: Care & Handling ::

As with any fragile porcelain with metallic embellishment, these pieces should never be used in microwaves, and we strongly recommend hand washing with a mild dish soap. Where there is surface crazing, avoid staining by restricting contact with acidic or deeply colored liquids & foods (strong coffee, beets, etc).

Please Note: Vintage and antique dishes were often decorated with glazes containing varying levels of toxic substances, like lead or cadmium. If you have a concern, please research before purchasing. To minimize exposure when using vintage dinnerware, please observe the following precautions: use infrequently; do not expose to high heat, including microwaves, ovens, and dishwashers; avoid contact with acidic foods & liquids, especially if piece is cracked or crazed (slight crackling of the clear overglaze); do not use to store food or liquids; hand wash with a gentle detergent soon after use and allow to air dry.
