Description

“Wide as all the world, great, high, and unbelievably white in the sun," wrote Ernest Hemingway in his famous short story 'The Snows of Kilimanjaro'. Few mountains offer the majesty and mystique of Kilimanjaro, at 19,341 ft (5,895 m) the highest mountain in Africa, dwarfing the region's other peaks.

If you have climbed Kilimanjaro, CONGRATULATIONS!

What do you remember most about climbing 'Kili'? Was it the 5 distinct ecological zones as you made your way from lower slopes to the arctic summit? Or the exotic flora and the amazing geology of each zone? Or perhaps the Chagga culture (and by extension its motifs) in the surrounding plains of the great mountain? The distinctive silhouette and snow-capped peak, often partially veiled in clouds, that form one of the most breathtaking sights on the continent? What about the midnight start for summit bid? And on the summit, your lightheadedness that may be a reaction to the thrill and satisfaction of the surreal views from the roof of Africa?

This stylish print is an expression of my experience of climbing Kilimanjaro. It oozes East African colourful vibes, and captures just about everything most of us would remember about the climb including the feelings of awe and reverence. The shooting star against the blue night sky is symbolic (and factual for those lucky enough to have seen one), for indeed scaling one of the world's Seven Summits (highest mountains on each of the seven continents) is not a walk in the park. 😉

For the adventurers and climbers who have yet to make climbing Kilimanjaro a reality, this print may offer inspiration and motivation. For others, the attractiveness of the print may lie in the art itself, a piece that could work well in any room decor.

Print sizes are available to suit standard frame sizes:

5" x 7"
8" x 10"
11" x 14"
12" x 16"
16" x 20"
22" x 27.5"

Printed on fibre-based 285gsm Hahnemuhle Torchon — an acid-free, archival fine art paper of museum standard that lasts for centuries. A Torchon paper is one that is quite rigid and has a irregular texture, giving a feel of handmade quality to our print.

Print is supplied with a white border for protection as well as option of framing with a matt board.

Frame, matt board and any other objects shown in the photos are not included with the print. They are for illustrative purposes only and show how the print could look framed.

Please note: Colours may vary from monitor to monitor. We try our best to match the images shown here to the actual print, but please allow for some variance due to this.
