14K Opal Diamond Ring with Platinum Top Art Nouveau Era Statement Ring Cocktail Dinner Ring

Fabulous large precious opal and diamond ring with a platinum top and 14 karat rose gold shank. The oval cabochon opal, measuring 18mm wide by 21.5mm long by 5mm deep, radiates its rainbow-like colors in multi-hued iridescence when exposed to different angles of light. An incredible display of color in its pinfire pattern.

This outstanding natural opal is surrounded by a platinum band holding 28 single cut diamonds approximately .05pt each with a total weight of approximately 1.75 carats. The 14 karat rose gold shank is decorated with an engraved flower on the top of each side and is secured to the platinum top via a series of "wires". Hallmarked 14K on shank with an unknown makers mark that appears to be m.k.

A definite statement ring! Outstanding cocktail dinner ring. A ring for any occasion.

Size: 7-1/2;
top: width: 23mm, length: 27.5mm, depth: 5mm
weight: 10 grams
diamond weight: approx 1.75 carats
opal weight: approx. 10.5 carats

There is crazing to the interior of the opal and the ring is priced accordingly. No doubt this is due to age and lack of proper care. There are minor cracks to the opal; and are limited to the interior. Proper care, i.e., saturating the stone in mineral oil overnight and storing the ring in moist absorbent cotton will help avoid future aging.

Caveat: The ring is wearable as is but any major bang could shatter the opal and the ring is priced accordingly.

Resizing is really not an option since pressure applied to the opal when resetting it could cause breakage.

The wholesale price of the diamonds and gold combined is $2100.00. To replace an opal this size would run approximately $1600.00.

The setting is incredible and just about any stone can be sized to fit the setting, e.g., an aquamarine, an amethyst, etc. Both those aforementioned stones would be far less costly as a replacement than an opal.
