Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home;
Your house is on fire and your children are gone --
All except one, and that’s Little Anne,
For she has crept under the warming pan.

Ladybug, ladybird, lady cow -- these little critters are known by different names in different parts of the world, but they are instantly recognizable, no matter what we call them. One of the best things about these guys is that they feed on aphids and scale insects, saving our roses and fruit from ruin. In the larval stage they look positively sinister, almost begging to be squished just to make this world a safer place. But they emerge from the pupa as the cute, shiny, domed creature we want to attract to our gardens. (Do you suppose they were the inspiration for the original Volkswagen Beetle? )

I always thought they had a neat personality, for a bug. Then recently I watched a YouTube video of a ladybird beetle playing with candy sprinkles – what a hoot! An insect that can play – that’s my kind of insect!

Oh, yes – the pillow! It’s 20” square, stuffed with a removable polyester fiberfill insert, is made of indoor-outdoor fabric, is hand painted (not a reprint, transfer, decal or reproduction) with permanent textile paint, and can be made in other ladybird colors. Spot cleanable, machine washable, or garden hose-able; air dry flat.

Here’s hoping this lady finds her way home to get Little Anne out from under the warming pan. Enjoy!
