Description

A rather well loved but still good early 20C jacket, in a cotton velvet from Lister's of Bradford, who were one of the big mills in the Victorian era and well into the twentieth century - their mass production of velvet such as this made them a fortune at the time!

Featuring puffed sleeve heads, it is fitted across the shoulders and then slightly loose fitting over the body, I would say to accommodate a pigeon fronted bodice?

It has an overlapping shawl collar, with shaping. Fastens asymmetrically.

There is a single button and loop fastening (think the pop may be a replacement, which you could move across slightly to later the fit. I can't decide if it's been previously moved as no discernible marks to pile.

Fully lined, it looks like someone has also added an 'after market' inner pocket!

Original label is damaged but I believe it reads 'The Embee', and the jacket also retains the original early care label.

Measures:

I'd say it is suitable up to around a modern UK 12, ok for a 10 too.

I measured laid flat along the seams (measurements doubled where appropriate)

Shoulder seam to shoulder seam 15"

Bust 40" max

Waist currently up to 40" (could move button to make smaller/desired fit)

Hips 44" max

Underarm to cuff 16.5"

Shoulder to hem approx 29.5/30"

Condition:

Good and completely wearable, but it has been worn a reasonable amount which is evident externally.

There are various small marks and worn spots to the pile - I've lightened the worst mark. The overall impression is still quite good though, and the lining is in very good shape with no underarm damage etc. so I don't think it's been abused too much!

It's about a 6/10 when you look closely, but fine at a glance and just looks like 100+ year old velvet! It's definitely strong enough to happily withstand wear today, which is pretty amazing really.

Please study the photographs as they also form a part of the description. Thank you!
