Description

This contemporary coffee table is a traditional form made modern by the use of different but complementary woods (mahogany and tiger maple), although the table would look good with other woods or even one wood selection. I consider the table to be a beginner to intermediate level project. The primary joinery is via dowels which is an easy joint to create. There are also mortises which are a little more difficult (but a joint the aspiring woodworker needs to master) and the top being a glue-up of several boards likely will require some amount of flattening.

The table measures 34-1/2" wide, 17-3/4 tall and 18-3/4" deep. The table is designed to fit a small space.

This 15 page plan takes the maker through the whole process for building the coffee table. I include a cut list and material cutting diagram along with a link to the SketchUp model on page 4. There are large, easy to understand images of the construction steps and I have added online resources (no affiliate links) which help make building the table easier. I also offer ideas on ways you can modify the table to make it your own.

All dimensions are imperial; no metric dimensions are included.

Typical woodworking tools are required like a table saw, jointer, thickness planer, plunge router, drill, sander, chisel and clamps. The plan includes a source for an easy to use dowel jig.
