This is a vintage enameled sterling silver hamsa from Morocco. The chain is good quality, duroplated (extra heavy) sterling silver. I can make the chain shorter if you wish. Just include the length you want in the message to seller. The spring clasp and the earrings are sterling silver. I added the glass beads on the earrings to go with the colors in the hamsa.

chain: 24" (61cm); pendant: 1 1/2" (4cm). Price includes earrings.

The hamsa (or khamsa) is a palm-shaped amulet popular throughout the Middle East and North Africa as a defense against the evil eye. The Arabic name for the hamsa is the hand of Fatima, commemorating Fatima Zahra, the daughter of the Prophet Mohammed. In the Jewish faith it is a protective sign and is believed to bring its owner happiness, luck, health, peace, and good fortune.

The Silk Road, made famous by Marco Polo, was actually an interconnected series of ancient trade routes of 5,000 miles mainly connecting China with the cultures of Asia Minor and the Mediterranean. These cultures inspired the pieces in this collection.
