Description

In cooperation with Pitcher Puzzles, I am proud to present David Pitcher’s Madness Plus.

From the designer:
I'm happy to introduce to you my latest puzzle, Madness Plus. As you might guess from the name, Madness Plus is very similar to Oskar's classic Meteor Madness puzzle. However, Madness Plus has three additional axes of rotation, thus the "plus" in the name.
I made this puzzle partly at the prompting from one of my YouTube subscribers, who asked what the Tricopter 9 puzzles would look like if they were face-turning. I thought this would be a great idea to show the true nature of the nine-axis geometry, and it might even resolve the question of whether the three new axles are jumbling or not. I believe this definitively answers that they are not jumbling, and in this version of the puzzle they are in fact doctrinaire.
As I explain in the video (which I apologize for making rather lengthy), this puzzle has all the same pieces as the previous Tricopter 9 puzzle, and almost the same piece set as the Tricopter 9SS. The difference is that with Tricopter 9 several of the pieces are hidden (and not stickered), and other pieces don't require orientation Also, Tricopter 9 has overhang bandaging and some pieces can be exchanged with one another. With Tricopter 9SS all the pieces are visible, although the triangular face centers are missing, and several pieces can be exchanged with each other. But there is no overhang bandaging, so Tricopter 9SS is arguably the most equivalent of the puzzles. I think Madness Plus is the most understandable of these puzzles because every piece is visible (as a result of the curvy cuts), and every piece has it's own unique location and orientation. The shape of Madness Plus also keeps shape-shifting to a minimum. Last, it is easy to see where turns are available since you need only to look for the sides that are flat. Those are the sides that will turn.
