Description

A wonderful example of the work of highly respected B.C. Ceramicists, Jan and Helga Grove, who emigrated to Canada from Germany in the early 1960s.
Their work is a testament to their strong belief in the value of the handmade object over the mass produced one. All their pieces were handmade individually, without the use of mounds, creating a strong link between artist and product. Jan was usually tasked with throwing the bowl and Helga was the decorator.

This bowl speaks directly to all those values and qualities. The beauty of this bowl resides greatly in the unique interior decoration of the bowl, with its bold use of color and marks. The exterior of the bowl is similarly unique with it’s uncharacteristic use of gold glazing. The rim of the the bowl beautifully complements the overall work by carrying the gold wash over the rim. A wonderful addition to a pottery collection.

Condition: the condition is very good, however, just below the border there is, what looks like a very faint hairline crack. I have shown it to a potter friend and she is not certain whether it is indeed a hairline crack. However, while it does not compromise the integrity of the bowl, I have priced it to reflect this imperfection.
