A Big thank you to AdoringVintage for including Legendary Love in this amazing treasury >>> http://www.etsy.com/treasury/4d91ab4976f06d918078727c/how-do-i-talent-thee-let-me-count-the-ways

I had been approached by a local fellow, in love and about to be married, who wondered if I might be able to make a goblet with two rings captured together around the stem, and having legendary Celtic origins.
Certainly I was curious (as well as pleased that he would think of me to stretch my experience, and romantic notions!)

The Legend of the Wedding Goblet dates back to the 17th Century Celtic Tradition ~ a young man who is courting a young woman goes off into the forest to find a piece of wood that he would shape into a special goblet. The stem would be surrounded by two finely carved rings.
The couple would toast one another from the goblet; the unbroken rings symbolizing their bond of strength, unity, and eternal love. If he is really keen on the young lady, he will take the time to select a quality piece of wood that will not split and will last as long as he hopes their love will... forever. If he does not think it will last, he will not be so fussy in his choice, green or decaying wood could cause the rings and goblet to split, as would their relationship.

I 'wood' like to think this goblet will last as long as 'True Love Forever' ;^)

I am proud to say that this bit of maple wood has been salvaged from a downed local tree, and turned on the lathe like it knew what it was meant to be. No hitches, smooth lovely grain. Soft in colour and in feel... we are pleased!
A Perfect Wedding Gift ~ its lines evoke feelings of tenderness (happy sigh ;^) !)

Standing just over 5.5"(14.3cm), base diameter of 2.5"(6.2cm), an inner cup depth of 2"(5.1cm), it is buffed with beeswax to a nice 'honey' polish. Yes, you may toast with this goblet, however I would not recommend standing liquids inside for any length of time. A quick wash, rinse, dry, and place where you will enjoy it always.

Feel free to ask for additional pieces to match: smaller ringless goblets for bridesmaids/groomsmen... I'm open to consider new ideas anytime!

Shipping will be by Canada Post, 1-2 weeks delivery within Canada, 2-3 weeks within mainland United States. If I have overcharged in shipping fees (it will depend on distance), I shall refund through PayPal if more than $1.
