I made my mother a journal for Christmas. Her favorite color is green, so I went with it, hunting through my paper stash for the best green papers. Well, as I was finding those, I also came across red, orange, yellow, blue, and purple pages that were irresistible and turned into a rainbow of books, large and small.

This book, 8 3/4" tall by 5 1/2 " wide by about 1 1/2” thick (at the bound edge). The front cover has a red and gold motif that reminds me of Persian carpets. The back cover is made from metallic gold cardstock.

The pages are all hand cut. Each signature contains 36 pages (18 leaves) of red text weight paper and is wrapped in a piece of decorative paper. With 9 signatures, this book contains 360 pages (180 leaves).

This book is bound using the Coptic stitch, which means that it will lie flat while in use. To sew it, I used dark red hemp cord, which I waxed using local beeswax. Put your nose near the stitches and you might be able to smell the beeswax-y goodness.

I use high quality materials in all of the books I make and construct them in a smoke-free, pet-free environment.
