Description

Hand-picked from our pristine mountain farm and surrounding Montana mountain wilderness, our Rose is wild and naturally organic. World-reknowned for their prickly beauty, Roses are as medicinally functional as they are ornamental. Harvested from multiple sub-varieties of Wood's Rose, we currently have rose hips available. Next summer we will have foliage available again.

Our big, beautiful Rose Hips are gathered late-season, sweetened by the first frosts of the year. As a fruit that contains exponentially more vitamin C than common citrus fruits, Rose Hips are an invaluable addition to the herbal medicine cabinet! Hips are patiently air-dried to a "leathery" skin stage.
The foliage of the rose is gathered at maturity in the summer. Unbeknownst to many, rose foliage and flowers are just as medicinally potent, if not more so, than their fruits!

Our herbs are always sustainably harvested, with little to no impact on the plants' populations or health! For Wild Rose, we harvest healthy, fresh leaf growth and minimal flowers, and harvest hips in the late fall/winter season. The photos in this listing are examples of the plants we harvest from, and the dried herb(s) you will receive.

*To be clear; this is a hand-harvested and dried herb. We do not buy in bulk and resell! Our herbs are kept as whole as possible and always air dried; no machines or equipment.

ROSE AS A HEALING HERB

[**The following is an excerpt from Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States by C. W. Kane**]

Chemistry:
Like cultivated Rose, Wild Rose contains an array of natural compounds that tend to collect in varying concentration within three main parts. Leaves: primarily phenolic acids (tannins), flavonoids (mainly quercitin and kaempferol), and sesquiterpenes (if glandular). Flowers: phenolic acids, flavonoids, monoterpenes, and anthocyanins. Hips (with seeds): phenolic acids, flavonoids, anthocyanins/anthocyanadins, tocopherols (vitamin E), carotenoids (carotenes, zeaxanthin, lutein), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), fatty acids (linoleic, etc.).

Medicinal Uses:
...[For leaves and flowers] Use the tea as a sore throat gargle. Repeated every hour or so, this application will soothe reddened and painful tissues. Sinusitis and rhinitis sufferers will see benefit in the tea as an isotonic nasal wash. Most find it superior to using a saline solution alone, especially if there is nasal discharge and sinus membrane irritation.
Like Red Raspberry and Wild Strawberry, women find the tea used as a sitz bath reducing to the redness and inflammation of vaginitis and cervicitis. ...If suffering from excessive menstruation, sue to no particular organic problem, the tea (internal) will be found lessening. Mid-cycle spotting should too respond well to several cups a day. Some women entering into perimenopause find the tea abating to excessive/erratic menstruation. The internal tea combined with the wash or sitz bath is soothing and tonifying to post-partum traumatized tissues.
For mild cases of cystitis and urethritis most will find Wild Rose soothing and anti-inflammatory. Though not strong enough to counter an acute bacterial infection, try 2-3 cups a day for on-and-off again urinary irritability.
...Due to the plant's array of tannins, tea-soaked towel applied to skin irritation and minor injury will be found beneficial.
Although the tea and/or syrup of the hip (fruit) has value, its optimal preparation is the coarse powder, encapsulated or simply mixed with water, taken internally. Consider hips a concentrated superfood with medicinal overtones, rather than strictly an herbal medicine. Taken with medicinal aspects, with no medical orientation, the hips are an excellent natural source of vitamins (especially vitamin C), minerals, and health-promoting lipids.
Virtually any condition that exhibits inflammation and oxidative stress will benefit from hip supplementation. Reactive and/or poorly healing skin conditions will improve with Wild Rose hips: dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and lingering ulcers, sores, and woulds to name a few. Vascular conditions such as varicose veins and hemorrhoids, whether linked to CVI... or otherwise will improve.
Additinoally, systemic-oriented autoimmune condition with inflammatory signatures (i.e. Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, asthema, allergies, etc.) will show betterment with Wild Rose hips. As a cancer-preventative it combines well with Turmeric. As a ward against cardiovascular inflammation, use it with Hawthorn. Or if suffering from chronic hepatitis (viral related, for example) or cirrhosis its mixture with Western Mugwort, Milk Thistle, or Turmeric has merit.

Additional policies

REGARDING WOLF, BLACK BEAR, COUGAR, AND LYNX:
Etsy does not allow the sale of products or specimens derived from these species, HOWEVER it IS legal for my business to trade and export these species. These bans are NOT based on any federal laws or legal restrictions. You can check here for current inventory on these species:
http://www.desertrosetaxidermy.com

If you would like to place a custom order for one of these species, please message me on Etsy, or send an email to contact [!at] DesertRoseTaxidermy.com.
Some states/countries may restrict the import, purchase, or ownership of bear, wolf and cougar, so please check with your local Fish and Game and know your wildlife laws before placing an order.

OWL, HAWK, RAVEN, AND OTHER MIGRATORY BIRDS AND BIRDS OF PREY:
I get a lot of custom requests for items from birds of prey and other migratory species. Nearly all migratory birds are federally protected, and it is illegal to possess any part (bone, nest, or feather) of these animals. I cannot help you with your quest for these specimens!

FAQs

Here’s the scoop:
Wildlife has international trade regulations. The fees, permits, and lengthy processes have made it impractical for me to continue offering international wildlife shipment.

The good news:
Items from domesticated species have no USA export regulations. I can ship domesticated species worldwide with no additional export fees.

Remember:
Always check your local customs and regulations before importing any animal specimens!
I do not trap. I do hunt, but not for business. Wildlife is only ever taken for food or farm security. Precious few of my wildlife specimens will have come from personal hunting. The vast majority of my wildlife items are salvaged “waste” from the hunting and trapping trades, where it is commonplace for most of the animal to be discarded. This unique form of “recycling” offers folks a chance to use and honor pieces that would otherwise have been thrown away! As of 2018, none of our bones will have had any monetary exchange attached to them; we clean foraged and salvaged bones only!
