Phenomenal, larger-than-life, authentic 1930s archival pinup poster of Queen Cleopatra & her peacock by Eggleston: Art Deco Egyptian Revival calendar art printed in unbelievably rich, vivid colors (not done justice by my photos). This gorgeous study in blues, greens, creams and reds, is matted, glazed and framed and ready to illuminate your wall...its size and quality simply dazzle the eye!

One of Eggleston's most memorable illustrations, it's an authentic vintage sample from the archives of a famed old American calendar company (the Thomas D. Murphy Co.) and is signed in lower left corner; plus “8800 CLEOPATRA” and a short poem by Thos. Campion:

“Free beauty is not bound
To one unmoved clime;
She visits every ground
And favours every time.”

The iconic Egyptian queen is bedecked with jewels and an amazing headdress (and not much more), reclining seductively amidst her carpets and pillows as she contemplates her peacock, minarets shimmering in the azure distance...the effect is tastefully sensual and would look especially beautiful in a glamorous boudoir or dressing room.

:: Measurements ::
This poster is gigantic, over 3 feet high, framed!

Frame = 37.25” high x 25.75” wide [94.6cm x 65.4cm]
Visible Area = 29.5” high x 18.5” wide [75cm x 47cm]

The illustration covers an area about 19” high [48.25cm], with a 9.5” [24.15cm] space below where the calendar would have been attached.

PLEASE NOTE: If you would like the poster without the frame, mat & glass, please convo us; price would be reduced by $45 and shipping would be significantly less (Overseas Buyers: please send your full address for an accurate shipping quote. Please remember that local import taxes and fees are not included in our shipping fees.)

:: Condition ::
Excellent! No creases, tears, holes, etc. It would be classified as Mint except for a tiny bit of edge wear of the lower right corner of poster, and a small area of wear on the top of the frame.

:: History ::
Edward M. Eggleston (1882–1941) was one of the premier pinup illustrators of the Golden Age of American Illustration. The Thos. D. Murphy calendar company of Iowa began in 1899 & for 100 years produced some of the most iconic and unforgettable examples of “the People’s Art,” as this accessible, sometimes nostalgic, calendar art was known. The company would carefully archive samples of their most remarkable images each year, hence the incredible condition of this print.
