Material: 18K solid gold, natural aquamarine

Period: Mid Century, Retro, 1960
Provenance: an estate sale
Condition: very good, see description

Additional remarks: stamped with the French owl assay mark, with the number 750 and with the designer's number.

DESCRIPTION:
This lovely aquamarine is very pale blue. In fact, it is so pale and iridescent that you could almost mistake this solitaire for a diamond ring. It has the ability to send flashes of light and sparkles clear across the room. It is very clear and bright, with no inclusion. It is just a beautiful natural gem.

The ring has a modern shape to it. The shank starts on one side of the gem, slightly askew, and ends on the other side of the gem in the same oblique manner. Originally, the ring must have been too large for its owner who obviously did not want a common type of ring. So, the square-shaped shank was reduced with the addition of a couple of beads. This procedure is still used frequently for those who do not wish to do re-sizing or whose ring has a tendency to spin too much on the finger. These beads can be removed if a larger size is desired.

The ring has been well taken care of, but time has left signs of use with a few scratches on the gem. However, those are visible only with a X10 loupe. They are not noticeable to the naked eye. So, the ring is in very good condition. Any white or cloudy spots on the images are glare and/or photographic obstructions.
