Colorantic Glazes | Glaze Options: White Cloud, Chocolate Cake, Grey Kitten and Clear Window

The Colorantic™ glazes are offered in many colours: Chocolate Cake Brown, Window Clear and the two new glazes: Grey Kitten and White Cloud. The available sizes are 4, 8 and 16 oz.

What is a glaze? A glaze is mainly used as a clear juxtaposition technique to create an effect of depth. It can also be used as a protective coat, but it is often used to obtain a darker tinted finish than regular stains. The glaze is used to dilute an opaque paint such as Colorantic™ chalk based paints. The 15th century Flemish used this glaze process to create an appearance of depth and realism.

The clear glaze can be mixed with any Colorantic™ chalk based paint. The formula is simple: ¾ of Window Clear glaze with ¼ of your choice of Colorantic™ chalk based paint. For example: would you like to create a pink washed effect for your daughter’s room? Mix the Window Clear glaze with Colorantic™ Antique Pink and you will get your desired effect. You are also able to brighten your paint to bring out the wood grain. This is how you will create your own ‘coloured opaque stain’. The Chocolate Cake, White Cloud as well as Grey Kitten glazes are already pre-mixed, so you can get the brown, white and grey opaque stain effects and will be able to see the wood grain.

The clear Window glaze allows you to mix it with a colour of Colorantic’s paint and water. To read about this technique, visit the Colorantic’s blog. The clear glaze is used to soften the fabric so it doesn’t make your fabric fibers tight. The clear glaze will help the fiber to create a nicer look even when you touch it.

The clear glaze can also be used for glitter mixing medium.

Method of application?
You can use a coloured glaze on top of any Colorantic™ chalk based paint and wipe with a clean, dry cloth to obtain a linear finish effect.

Another technique consists of applying two (2) tinted glaze coats on your unfinished wood. Wipe the excess with a clean, dry cloth. Once your glaze is completely dry (it dries very fast), apply the Colorantic™ chalk based paint colour of your choice. Use the Colorantic™ sanding block to sand or wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth. You will see the stain show through the paint colour.
