Dimensions

Necklace length: 21 Inches; Pendant height: 1 1/2 Inches; Pendant width: 1 7/8 Inches

This elegant black and silver necklace features a triangular drop of chatoyant Hypersthene, which is a feldspar with mica. Chatoyancy is often referred to as cat's eye effect, and is an optical reflectance effect, most visible in sunshine. Hypersthene is found in igneous and some metamorphic rocks and in stony and iron meteorites. The name comes from the Greek meaning "over strength", and some Hypersthene deposits come from the Adirondack Mountains of New York. The triangular drop is 1 1/2 inches long, by 1 7/8 inches wide, with diagonal silvery streaks visible in sunlight. I used lots of sterling silver spacers, and diamond-shaped sterling accent beads, along with an Israeli pewter hook and loop clasp for easy installation. Other beads used to pull out the silvers and blacks include more of the Hypersthene, freshwater pearls, black pyrite, black onyx, hematite, Swarovski crystals, and Czech and China glass. There are also earrings available, which feature black pearls, sterling and faceted glass discs, about 1 1 /4" in length. This is a perfect piece for people who gravitate to black and silver, worn well with formal and more casual attire.
