Description

Everything you need to create kid-sized espadrille shoes in one beautiful package! The Espadrilles Kit is perfect for getting you started making your favorite little person their own shoes and it's pretty enough to give as a gift. It is also a project suitable for kids that are confident using a sewing machine with parental guidance. Great for group crafting get-togethers such as modern baby showers or birthday events for crafty mamas.

This kit includes needles, espadrille thread, wax, needle puller, elastic, interfacing, an instruction booklet, pattern, and shoe soles. It does not include fabric so you can use any beautiful fabric you already have. (It requires around 1/3 or a yard of canvas and cotton lining. Of course, depending on the shoe size and directionality of your fabric you might be able to use even less.) This kit is unique because it include elastic and information on how to create an elasticized heel to keep the shoes on kids. It's a great technique to lean and applicable with the adult shoes as well.

Be sure to choose the color of thread you would like to use for the blanket stitch around the edge. Choices are Bone, White, Black, Blue, Red, Pink and Red.

I have hand-sewn many of the kit accessories and included my own booklet with fitting tips, a how-to for the classic reinforced toe as well as how to create an elasticized heel. Just pick the shoe size and you are all set! Note: This project does require a sewing machine and knowledge of how to sew.

Shoe soles run big so if you are a half size I recommend you choose a shoe sole a size down.
Having a hard time choosing the size? I know that sizing can be tough so I've pulled together a helpful guide for getting the right shoe sole.

1. Measure in inches, as straight as possible, from the heel to the top of the big toe.

2. Feet need wiggle room so you will want to choose the shoe size at least 3/4" BIGGER than your measurement. For example, if you measured 5", choose the size 4 because it is 5 3/4" at it's longest point.

+ Size 3 = 5 1/2"
+ Size 4 = 5 3/4"
+ Size 5 = 6"
+ Size 6 = 6 1/4"
+ Size 7 = 6 1/2"
+ Size 8 = 6 3/4"
+ Size 9 = 7"
+ Size 10 = 7 1/4"
+ Size 11 = 7 1/2"

I do my very best to make my kits eco-friendly including a recycled box, organic lining fabric and using fabric scraps for decorative components in an attempt to be as low-waste as possible. Even my business card is made out of old t-shirts! At this time, however, I am unable to source organic canvas fabric that is perfect for the outside of the shoes. Please see the post labelled "Eco-Responsibility & The Espadrille Kits" for an in depth look.

Please note: You will need a sewing machine and thread to complete this project and the instructions assume you know sewing basics. This listing is for a kit you or someone else may use to make espadrille shoes, it is not sale of a completed pair of shoes.
