The Pleiades star cluster is often referred to as the Seven Sisters. It is an open cluster of stars nearest the earth that burns bright and hot. This constellation holds a great deal of meaning in various cultures across time and space. In Greek mythology, the Pleiades represents the companions of Artemis: Maia, Electra, Taygete, Alcyone, Celaeno, Sterope, and Merope.

This pendant is my own adaptation of the ancient Nebra sky disk, an artifact dated circa 1600 BC which depicts the Pleiades star cluster.

This fine silver pendant was water etched to form the crescent moon and constellation. After firing, those portions were gilded in 22K gold before the entire pendant was given a brushed antique finish.

The antique brass chain brings out the warm tones of the gilded constellation; it measures 18". The pendant is 1.25" high.

Metal clay work is a very organic, handmade process which results in unique and one-of-a-kind creations. Small variations and imperfections are part of the beauty and charm of this medium, and it can produce some stunning results. Once fired, silver metal clay becomes .999 fine silver.
