Erik the Red, needle felted gnome sculpture, sheep wool and mohair, approximate size: 7" tall, 4" wide. Includes signed tag with care instructions.

Often, when I handcraft a needle felt sculpture, the people and animal figures, take on a life of their own. Sometimes the character is what I envision. Sometimes someone emerges like a moth from a cocoon, struggling to get out and make a statement. These lovely, red, mohair locks were intended for a lady wood gnome. Instead they are gracing the delightful, sparkling eyes and sturdy form of 'Erik the Red'.

All sculptures incorporate natural fibers and natural materials that may include: sheep wool, llama wool, mohair, cat, dog or horse hair, silk, bone, wood or plant fibers. Each piece is individually made and has a unique character. No two characters or figures are alike - even if I try - it's not going to happen. That is the nature of the material and tools. For me that is the catalyst for the creative process - the intrigue of watching the form emerge.

About Needle Felting:
Needle felting is a dry felt process adapted from the industrial felt trade. The sharp, barbed needles are punched in and out of clean, carded wool which causes the fibers to entangle and felt. It is a simple, easy to use tool that allows the creation of amazing three dimensional sculptures or embellished flat felt pieces.

All art, designs, prints, music/lyrics, and instructions are copyrighted. Unauthorized use creates bad karma.
