This groovy 1970s yellow ceramic shelf clock, designed by Charles Chaney for VOHANN of California, has a white ceramic oval face and great, graphic numbers that look hand-painted, and handsome linear metal hands. The open back has a movement made by KIENZLE, a venerable German clockmaker, that takes one C battery and has an adjustment mechanism to adjust the clock faster or slower.

The clock measures 14-1/4" tall x 5-1/4" wide and has the original gold foil sticker on the back side of the base, which reads, "An original design for VOHANN of California, Inc. Capistrano Beach, Calif U.S.A. (c) By Charles Chaney".

The clock is in excellent vintage condition with a few light spots on the face and a small scrape at the center near the hand mechanism. There is some age crackling in the yellow glaze and the finial has some irregularities in the glaze and some tiny bubbles as if it was reglazed after the initial treatment, but this doesn't in any way detract from the piece. The ceramic body has no chips or cracks. The timepiece gives a soft clunk every few minutes along with the friendly ticking. An amazing piece of period design!
