This soft, elegant, traditional baby bonnet is perfect for any special day! It is knit in one piece with seed stitch edging to frame the face and a filigree neckline. Ribbon gathers the base of the bonnet for an excellent fit. It is the perfect bonnet for your tiny prince or princess, and absolutely destined to become a family heirloom. It is perfectly paired with the Traditional French Baptism Gown, also available on my site, or with any special outfit. The pattern was created by Madame Segneri, a knitwear designer in Lyon, France, for the Baptism of her twin daughter, Angélique, seen in the photos at age 10 and a half months.

The bonnet is soft and stretchy, and can be worn by babies and toddlers approximately size 6 to 18 months. You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit stitches, purl stitches, knit two stitches together, yarn over, cast off, seam the finished work and knit in ends of the finished work – skill level beginner/intermediate. A bonnet, for an average skilled knitter, should take approximately 6 hours to complete.

Pattern may not be reproduced without permission of designer. Finished knits made from Madame Segneri designs are for personal use only.

Materials:
One medium skein or two small skeins solid aran weight, number 4 yarn, extra soft for baby’s skin, natural fibers recommended (Angélique’s was knit in 100% merino wool)
Pair of size 5 mm (US 8) needles
Darning needle
Scissors
Any matching ribbon of your choice, approximately 127 cm (50 inches) in length
