A classic book for costumers and historic re-enactors, this first edition HISTORIC COSTUME FOR THE STAGE by Lucy Barton is in very good condition. This lavishly illustrated book provides a detailed history of dress in chronological order, from Egypt in 4000 B.C., through Biblical times, the flowering of Greece and Rome, Byzantine and Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Elizabethan, the reign of Charles I, Restoration, Georgian, Directoire and First Empire, Romantic, Crinoline, Bustle, Fin de Siecle, and the beginning of the Twentieth Century. Styles of dress, hair styles and accessories for men, women and children are discussed. Special notes on the construction of stage costumes are also included, along with a complete bilibography. Generously illustrated by David Sarvis.

Hard cover, no dust jacket; 609 pages; published in 1935 by Walter H. Baker Company, Boston. Large book, measures 10-1/4" X 7" X approximately 2" thick, weighs over 3 lbs. In vary good condition, clean and undamaged with tight binding; no odors. Light shelf wear on edges of covers and spine, as shown. I notice just a few pages with hand-written notes. No highlighting or underlining. A valuable reference work for your library and a very enjoyable read.
