Wow! This necklace is amazing! The cabochon is made from Dryhead fortification agate. First discovered around 1950, Dryhead agates were named after the Dryhead Creek along the Montana/Wyoming border. Although, Dryhead agates weren't well known at first, today's collectors can easily recognize Dryhead agates by their orange and brown fortification bands, and a variety of vivid colors. Now Dryhead agates are becoming more difficult to find! I made a setting out of 24 gauge sterling plate and scalloped silver wire. I made the hanger with a 1/8" silver tube cut at 20 degrees and soldered together. I embellished the hanger with a silver strap that runs around the hanger. The sterling silver clasp has a double hook and round loop for its closure for easy installation around the neck. Sarah used a variety of sterling silver spacer beads and larger triangular shaped sterling beads to enhance the silver of the centerpiece and to add sparkle. The beads bring out the rusty red and orange bands of the agate centerpiece. The beads include red jasper, moukaite, peach aventurine, aragonite, cultured pearls, and Czech glass. This piece is 22 inches long, and the pendant centerpiece is 2 inches long by 1 3/4 inches wide. The clothing that you wear with our necklaces bring out different colors in the pieces. This is the reason I photograph them with different backgrounds. This will become a family treasure!
