Description

"winter is boring" was the Dec 2018 sock blank for my Sock blank club. It is a riot of color on the base with large gray circles and black snow flakes on top. However, since the backside of the blank remains mostly white, the color is toned down quite a bit as you knit it. The last picture was of one sock completed from this style blank.

DOUBLE STRANDED SOCK YARN BLANK
Content - 75% superwash merino 25% nylon
Weight - 100 grams (3.5 oz)
Yardage -423 meters (463 yards)

This is a commercially knitted sock blank that will allow you to knit two matching socks off one blank.

WHAT THE HECK IS A SOCK BLANK?
Basically, a sock blank is a skein of white, undyed yarn that has been machine knitted into rectangle for the dyer (me). This makes dyeing long sections of the yarn possible without using a warping board. Each stripe dyed on the knitted material correlates to a long length of dyed yarn when it is unwound.

I have added my own unique take on these sock blank by dyeing the base first and then stenciling on patterns and/or words on the top with thickened dyes.

This makes it easy to add unique patterns or words on the blank. I can stencil a name or small message like “Joy” or just some pretty leaves on each blank to make them each individual and meaningful. Of course, the readable pattern becomes lost as you knit the blank but the knitter will always know. :>)

When you go to knit with it, simply unravel the blank from the right end (the wrong end will lock stitch on the sides) and cast on. There will be a little kink but it isn’t too bad while you are knitting and will disappear when you block the sock.

These blanks are Doubles and so have TWO STRANDS knitted together. you need to unravel both at the same time and knit two at a time socks but you can create matching socks with this blank.
