A PDF chart designed for use with gradated sets of six colors. The motif is 12 stitches across, so it can be used for machine knitting as well as hand knitting.

This gradated chart was planned to give the illusion of soft shadows shifting across a landscape. As the eye moves up and down to investigate the color shifts, the area just viewed seems to move, just as it does when clouds scuttle across the sky above an open meadow. In the image of the swatch against a damask background, it appears that the swatch is ridged and not lying flat. But, it is! The undulation is an optical illusion. This is the identical image used in the close-up of the swatch, where it appears flat because it does not have a contrasting background. These subtle changes in dimension appear to occur because of the gradations, where foreground and background changes are staggered. This is clarified in the chart.

Example yarns are shown in this listing as a suggestion of what would work well with this pattern.

Three additional files are included: Fair Isle Design Guidelines, Getting Started with ColorShift Yarn, and Knitting Thickness Gauge.
