Handmade item

This is a huge faceted yellow YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet). The stone measures 17.7 x 13.5 mm across and weighs in at 30.73 carats. This is a lab-created gemstone.

This gemstone is a yellow Ce:YAG, a lab-created gem broadly similar to natural garnets. Normally I don't carry lab-created gems, but this material is an exception--with its insane fluorescence and almost uncanny yellow hue it makes for an exceptional gem all its own, not imitating anything found in nature. Despite being a synthetic stone, this material is difficult to find for jewelry - it took me quite a lot of searching to find the ex-Soviet industrial crystal company that sold me the rough for this.

Personally, I think these stones look a lot like the yellow luxin because from the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks. In the Lightbringer series, Perfect Yellow Luxin is an indestructible material made out of yellow light, which glows in the dark and can be used to fuel other magics. If you haven't checked his books out yet I'd recommend picking up The Black Prism and diving in, it is a great series! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003JT

In our world, this is a rare type of synthetic garnet - a cerium-doped yttrium-aluminum garnet currently used in lasers, LEDs, and x-ray detectors. It is one of the most fluorescent crystals that can be manufactured - and most of the more fluorescent ones, like NaI:TI, are extremely soft and don't like water, unlike YAG which is very hard and durable. This synthetic garnet will happily turn just about any light in the spectrum above yellow into yellow light. This gives it a very uncanny glow, particularly under indirect sunlight. Your eye tells you something weird is going on, because the stone is more yellow than it should be - it's like it's photoshopped into real life.

This one has been cut in a brilliant square. It is the biggest one we have, and its glow is just insane.
