Description

This exotic necklace features a large asymmetrical, geometric cabochon of Leopard skin jasper, paired with a black Peruvian ammonite, all set into sterling silver. Leopard skin jasper is an orbicular jasper, consisting of orbs and spots of olive green, black, beige and rust colors. The largest and most well known finds of Leopard skin jasper come from Aguas Calientes, in Chihuahua, Mexico; but is also found in Brazil and some areas of Africa. The Peruvian ammonites are found in the Huancayo region, and date back 350 million years ago, going extinct at the same time as the dinosaurs. I chose to set the ammonite in a scalloped sterling silver bezel, and the larger Leopard skin stone in a serrated sterling bezel. Both are backed with 24 gauge sterling silver sheet. The hanger portion is coiled half round sterling, with an opening large enough for Sarah to run the strand of beads through. The colors of the beads repeat the olives, black, and rusts of the centerpiece. These include red jasper, additional Leopard skin jasper, black onyx, cultured pearls, pyrite, Swarovski crystal, and Czech glass. The Czech glass beads include a black ammonite shaped bead, to repeat the black ammonite of the pendant. There are various sterling silver spacer beads, and larger coin shaped sterling beads to add sparkle to the piece. The hook and loop clasp is also sterling silver. This necklace is 20 1/2 long, and the pendant is 2 1/2 inches long, by 1 7/8 inches wide. This is a great selection for the fossil lover and paleontologist...sure to become a family treasure!
