Description

This is a very cheerful and mood uplifting necklace, full of blue green tones of Amazonite from Africa, with an underlying theme of flowers and leaves. Amazonite is named after the Amazon River in South America, but deposits are actually found in Brazil. Other large deposits exist in Russia, Ethiopia, Madagascar, and in the United States in Colorado and Virginia. The African Amazonite tends to be a deeper blue green color. Amazonite has a rich history, found in Egyptian tombs, and in pre-Columbian relics. I backed this Amazonite cabochon in 24 gauge sterling silver sheet, and set it with a scalloped sterling silver bezel. I then embellished it with a combination of a leaf, a cup shaped flower, and curving wire across the front of the stone. The hanger is coiled half round sterling silver, with an opening large enough for Sarah to take the beads of the necklace through. The beads repeat the colors of the Amazonite, plus contrast with some lighter and darker hues of blue greens, and pull out the white areas of the stone as well. These beads include more of the Amazonite, pale Apatite, green agate, Howlite, Quartz carved leaves, cultured pearls, and Czech glass. The sterling silver spacer beads, and larger sterling flower shaped beads add to the sparkle of the necklace. The clasp is an easy-to-use hook and loop style. This necklace is 20 inches in length, and the pendant centerpiece is 2 5/8 inches long, by 1 inch wide. This lovely piece is sure to become a family treasure!
