Materials

Metal, Chrome, Glass Keys

This is a Royal De Luxe manual portable typewriter in nearly flawless condition. This machine has been reconditioned and is ready to use as soon as you get it home.

The Royal De Luxe portable typewriter is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful typewriter of its time, and maybe one of the most striking machines ever made. First manufactured in 1935, it represents the pinnacle of pre=war portables. This same model is the typewriter that led me to start collecting in the first place. I absolutely love the black crinkle- paint and gleaming chrome bands that wrap around this machine. This particular example is in the best condition I've ever seen for its type, and is a rare find.

This machine has been cleaned, polished, lubricated, adjusted, and comes with a new ribbon pre-installed. It also has a carrying case.

**COSMETIC CONDITION**
Cosmetically, this Royal De Luxe is in nearly flawless condition. It's simply stunning. The black crinkle paint, chrome bands, and bright metal keys and control features are all in beautiful condition. There are some minor scrapes and scratches here and there, but nothing that at all takes away from the overall impression this machine gives. This is a stylish, refined machine that was Royal's the top-of-the-line typewriter at the time, and would have been viewed as a high-end laptop of its day. The care and craftsmanship that went into these De Luxes is evident to anyone who is lucky enough to own one. That this machine has been so well preserved and retains its original luster and shine is a testament to the care that went into these fine machines.

There is one minor cosmetic flaw on this Royal De Luxe that bears pointing out. On the left side of the machine on the upper chrome band, someone in the past scribed an identifying number or marker. It's a series of letters that was hand-etched into the chrome. Though it's not glaringly obvious, it is noticeable. Some people view these marks as imperfections, but I think they only highlight the machine's unique history. This machine was clearly loved and cared for, and that someone cared enough about it to mark it with a unique identifier gives it, in my view, a unique history and pedigree. This was a beloved machine, and it's easy to see why.

This Royal typewriter also comes with a carrying case, which is in excellent working condition.

**MECHANICAL CONDITION**
Mechanically, this typewriter is in nearly flawless condition. All keys and control features function as they should, and the carriage moves smoothly. Like many machines of this age, the platen (roller) has hardened some, and will leave some indentations in the page as you type, but it's not so hardened as to leave cutouts. The other rubber parts all remain in good shape as well.

**RECOMMENDED BUYER**
This Royal DeLuxe is something special. I restore about 70 or so machines a year, and I give the "nearly flawless" rating to maybe 5 or 6. This Royal DeLuxe is easily in that category. It's gorgeous and in tremendous condition both cosmetically and mechanically.

I'd recommend this typewriter for anyone who is serious about collecting, anyone who wants a working typewriter of stunning beauty, or anyone who needs a standout design or display piece that will draw attention and approval of all who see it.

While this machine is working well, it's not ideal for heavy (multiple pages per day) writing. Pre-war machines like this can be hard on typists because they require more finger pressure than later, mid-century machines. Because of this, finger fatigue can be a problem. Nevertheless, this machine is in excellent working order, and if you are willing to put in the extra effort to type on a mechanical pre-war portable, it is ready to take on the task of heavy writing.

I think this machine is a rare opportunity, and I'm certain you'll be happy if you're lucky enough to get it home.

Thanks for looking, and please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Returns and exchange details

I sell vintage and antique typewriters that are no longer made, some of which are 100 years old or more. As much as I'd love to be able to tell you that they will always be problem-free and last forever, I can't, because they won't.

Older machines can develop problems without notice, even if they're properly maintained and loved. I promise to accurately describe, photograph, or video any typewriter I sell. If you want additional photos or have questions about anything, all you have to do is ask. You can also inspect the machines in person if you are in the Kansas City area.

So, to make a long story short, I will accept most returns, but I do ask that you pay for return shipping. If your typewriter does not work as it should upon arrival, I'll accept a return unless it was sold as a display model. Also, if you do experience a problem, many times there is a simple repair that will solve it. I can often walk you through the repair so you don't have to send the typewriter back.

Shipping policies

Unless otherwise agreed to or specified, I'll ship all typewriters via USPS, FedEx, or UPS at my discretion. I will use the method that is most economical for my buyers, and will ship to anywhere in the continental United States.

If you are located outside of the United States, please contact me before making a purchase. I can usually arrange shipping, but I don't want to make any promises I cannot keep.

As far as packaging goes, shipping typewriters is notoriously problematic for some people. Typewriters have heavy moving parts (the carriages) that can be easily damaged if not properly secured. I lock the carriages on all shipped typewriters if they have that feature, but I may also secure them with additional safety measures. I use a variety of techniques to make sure your machine gets to you in exactly the same condition it was in when I boxed it up.

Please be advised that some typewriters are very heavy, and can weigh 40 pounds or more. These heavier machines naturally have higher shipping costs associated with them.
