Can you see these wood buttons on a little hobbit jacket, or what?!

Whether you're looking for a set of buttons to spruce up an old jacket, use in a knitting or sewing project, or as a gift for a creative friend- these buttons are sure to add a natural charm.

My husband Jeff made this set of 6 buttons. He used reclaimed Sassafras wood, with natural bark around the outside.

(For size reference, see last picture next to dime)

The wood buttons Jeff makes go through a long process. I wanted you to know more about how the buttons are made, so I asked him to share. This is what he wrote:

"I’m sure you can find wood buttons cheaper …. But you get what you pay for. Taryn, my wonderful wife suggested I write down the process the buttons I make go through. So here it is. If the button is one of the kinds with the bark still on, the process starts by slicing the button off a branch, then to keep the bark on it goes through a lengthy secret process. If the buttons aren’t slices from a branch, then I have to slice wood to the proper thickness, then cut them to the shape. Then each button goes through many stages of sanding and polishing. It starts with 100 grit, then 220, then 400, then 600, then 30 Micron, then I buff it on a wheel with two different grits, the final one being one that is used to polish eyeglasses. Then I drill them and rub them with either a Walnut Oil Blend, a Tung Oil Blend, or a Natural Shellac…depending upon the type of wood and how much it needs to be sealed. Then Taryn organizes them in groups and takes pictures of them…. I think that’s about it. Most wood buttons go through one grit of sanding, with very little shaping…. These buttons are top quality…. Enjoy"
