Dimensions

Pendant height: 2.52 Inches; Pendant width: 1.20 Inches

This pendant features crystal of amethyst from Brazil. The stone measures 2.07 x 1.20 inches (5.25 x 3.06 cm) and is set in solid sterling silver wire.

Amethyst is one of the best-known varieties of quartz, and maybe the best-known purple gemstone. Though many stones come in purple, few match the richness of color that amethyst provides, ranging from red-purple to more violet purple depending on orientation and lighting. Though it was once one of the most precious gems, ranked alongside ruby and emerald, major finds in South America brought an end to the gem's rarity and made it a widely-accessible stone. It has since been found in many locations around the world, though few locations produce it in quantities like Brazil.

Brazil is well-known for producing abundant fine amethyst, often in rough pieces used for cutting but also in large geodes and single crystal specimens. This stone is from a new find in Brazil of etched, pointed crystals with white patterning towards the tops and rich purple tips with great transparency. Some are calling these laser amethyst or amethyst wands and even amethyst elestials. I saw these for the first time this year at the Tucson gem show, and purchased a beautiful parcel of very fine crystals.

This stone is a great example. It has a light pinkish purple tip with high transparency and heavier etching towards the top.
