Handmade, one-of-kind purse using a recycled hardcover book, what a SMart idea!

These wonderful little Book Purses are what I like to call “Light Book Purses” because they are made from the book covers of vintage Reader Digest Condensed Book volumes! The Reader’s Digest Condensed Books were a series of hardcover anthology collections, published by Reader’s Digest and distributed by direct mail. Amazingly they were produced for over 47 years. With their interesting designed cover (they didn’t have dust jackets) and their smaller size, they make the most adorable Book Purses.

These Book Purses are still big enough to carry your essentials. Each measures 7.75 x 5.5 “ with a 1.75' spine. They open to about 6”.

This listing is for a Book Purse is made from Volume 5 of 1976. It has a graphic red diamond floral pattern and black spine. It’s lined in a tone on tone red print fabric. I used simple wood handles and gold button closure. Perfect for any occasion.

I never use new or unread books for my book purses because I respect the original intent of the book. But once the book has been read it need not sit on a shelf collecting dust! This unique Book Purse gives books new life and you something smart and functional!
