This is a tupelo bread bowl just like your Grandmother used to make fresh and hot biscuits in every morning. I have used, made and sold these bowls for years. You can actually make biscuits, bread, and serve salad, soup or stews in this bowl. All of my bowls have been hand rubbed with mineral oil. Mineral oil is odorless, tasteless, all natural and food safe. Over the years I have learned not only from my own Grandmother, but lots of Grandmothers that when the bowl is intended for making biscuits exclusively that it should not be rinsed with water. Many of them (99%) say that their Mother or Grandmother would actually scrape the bowl with a mason jar lid after the biscuits were made and then hung on a hook. That's "old school" folks. I have also learned that the reason that they preferred tupelo for making bread is because it is also tasteless, colorless and had no natural oder to distort or alter the flavor of the bread.
