Dimensions

Pendant height: 0.89 Inches; Pendant width: 1.44 Inches

This pendant features a natural crystal of Zambian citrine. The stone measures 0.40 x 1.44 inches (10.2 x 36.5 mm) and weighs in at 11 carats. It is set in sterling silver.

Quartz is one of the most familiar of minerals. Its most common varieties, colorless rock crystal and white opaque milky quartz are well known as common rocks found in most parts of the world. It can also form a very wide variety of gem materials, from amethyst and citrine to prasiolite, agate, chert and flint.

Citrine is the yellow to orange variety of quartz. It comes in a wide range of colors, from pale pure yellow to deep orangy-red. Many of the stones on the market now are actually treated to achieve their color, either by heating amethyst or irradiating colorless quartz. However, Zambia has begun to produce beautiful and completely untreated crystals of natural citrine ranging from pure lighter yellow to rich orange-gold.

This stone is a beautiful example, with a rich orange-gold color. I bought it directly from two Zambian miners at Tucson. Not only is it a natural citrine crystal, but it is also doubly terminated! This is rare even for these citrines and makes for a very unusual stone. I set it sideways to best show off both points.
