Tarheelbilly Farm yarn is back in stock for 2021! We are happy to make available 100% Tunis wool yarn from our pasture raised, chemical free flock of Tunis sheep. Tunis are a heritage breed sheep and one of the oldest sheep breeds developed in America. They are relatively rare as recorded by the Livestock Conservancy, and we are proud to play a role in preserving this wonderful breed. Each of our yarns are unique, small batch, and one of a kind yarns, processed by small mills.

This beautiful off-white colored yarn is made of 100% Tunis wool from our flock, sheared in March and April of 2020. This yarn is a worsted weight, 2-ply, 200 yards, 3.25 ounce skein. A sampling of yarn from this batch indicated 11 WPI. Tunis wool generally runs a 24-30 micron count and is considered medium soft. Tunis yarn is next to skin soft, but really shines in hats, mittens, socks, scarves, and sweaters. Suggested needle size: 6-10.

Our small flock of Tunis sheep happily graze year round. While care was taken in the skirting process, it can occasionally have small pieces of vegetable matter missed by the washing and carding process, as we do not coat our flock. This very small amount of vm present is easily removed during knitting. This year's yarn is carefully spun for us by Round Barn fiber located in Durand, Indiana. Items made from this yarn should be hand washed and laid flat to dry.

First time working with Tunis. Fiborous and durable. This infinity scarf was made with Tunis and Gulf Coast Native blend.

This is such a gorgeous, plump natural yarn. It has texture, and is so woolly and good. I'm in love with it! It arrived very quickly, and I feel lucky to have been able to buy it, since small farms often offer their products seasonally. If you get a chance to buy some, snatch it up!
