Item details

Mexican Hat, Prairie Coneflower, these seeds are the descendants of Ratibida "Red Midget"

Perennial - Zones 4 to 9

* Seeds per package - 300+ little tiny seeds
* Bloom Time - Late July to September
* Bloom Color - Mahogany red, sometimes with yellow on the tips of the petals
* Size - 18-24" x 18-24"
* Culture - Full sun and medium-dry to dry soil. Early spring rains sometimes make the plants grow on the tall side, which makes them a bit floppy later in the season. Drier conditions result in mounded growth, where the plants are wider than they are tall.
* Characteristics - Deep-red "coneflowers" rise above handsome, grey-green foliage over a long season in late summer.
* Special Features - These tap-rooted plants are drought-tolerant and are happiest in a dry, sunny spot.
* Germination - Surface sow on moist potting, and germinate at room temperatures of 60-70°F. Seedlings begin emerging within a week. Grow them on in drier conditions.
