REPEATING ALLOVER PATTERNS
These stencils can be reused over and over, so it's possible to stencil an entire wall or whole room with just one! REGISTRATION MARKS are tiny dots in every corner that can be marked with a pencil during the stenciling process. Do this every time and line up your stencil to the previous marks to ensure perfect alignment. No eyeballing necessary!

STENCILS - NOT DECALS
These are stencils - used with paint (you choose the color), not vinyl decals or wall stickers.

EVERYONE CAN STENCIL
We believe everyone is an artist in some way, but you do not need to be "artistic" to make a beautiful stencil. You can do a simple, one-color stencil by following the instructions (included with your order). You can also do gradient shading and other fun techniques by checking out our tutorials - and you still don't need to be "artsy" to do that!

REUSABLE/REVERSIBLE
Stencils are reusable/reversible. This makes them very affordable and better for walls than vinyl decals and wallpaper.

STENCILS ARE ECONOMICAL
Stencils are economical! Wallpaper can be very expensive and vinyl decals can only be used once.

STENCILS CAN BE USED ON MORE THAN JUST WALLS
You can think outside the box with stencils! Use them for your furniture, to create a patterned floor, ceiling, curtains, and more!

WILL NOT DAMAGE YOUR WALLS
No harm or damage will be done to your walls from stenciling - not like vinyl decals and wallpaper, which can peel your paint or require laborious removal.

STENCILS CAN BE TOUCHED UP OR FIXED VERY EASILY
Let's be realistic - mistakes can happen in any DIY home decor endeavor. Wallpaper, if applied crookedly, requires labor-intensive removal. Decals are not reusable, so if you would like to re-position one, you will have to re-purchase the decal. If you want to re-position your stencil, however, it just takes a quick coat of paint to cover it. Then, you can reuse the same stencil in a new spot. Very simple!

STENCILING STEPS - BASIC OUTLINE
First, spray your stencil with spray adhesive (3M or Elmer's all purpose work well). Do this outdoors, if possible. If not, use a drop cloth to prevent leaving a film on your floor or worktable. Experienced stencilers sometimes prefer to simply use painter's tape around the edges to stick the stencil to the wall.
- Once your stencil is in the right place, begin painting. If you're using a stencil roller, make sure you roll over some paper towels before going to the wall. Less paint on your roller helps prevent leaking. Roll gently. Pressing too hard will also cause more leaking. If you're using a stencil brush, the same applies - less paint = fewer leaks. Dab perpendicular to the wall instead of swiping. Again, a leakage prevention technique.
- When you're done, carefully peel your stencil from the wall. You don't need to wait for paint to completely dry (unless you're doing more than one coat). It is far easier to clean up paint leak spots with your wet q-tip on paint that is still a little wet.

FOR TEXTURED WALLS
Stencils work on textured walls with a little extra care. For extreme texture, like "popcorn", stenciling is not advisable. But for mildly textured walls, it can be done. To avoid paint leakage, it is better to use a stencil brush rather than a roller. If you keep your brush nearly dry (very little paint), you will get cleaner edges. Just dab your brush over a stack of paper towels each time you dip it in your paint. Spray adhesive (as opposed to painter's tape) will also help keep leaks at bay.

FOR FABRIC STENCILING
Another great use for stencils is for fabric. You'll want to use spray adhesive for your stencil and a stencil brush, not roller. Once you've secured your fabric to your worktable with masking tape, you can begin. PAINT - Jacquard has a wonderful array of fabric paints. You can also use regular acrylic paint mixed with some fabric medium (like Liquitex's version). Adhere your stencil and dab in your color. HEAT SETTING - Most likely, you will use an iron to set your paint. Regular home dryers do not get hot enough. It's often best to air dry your fabric for a week before you iron it. Set your iron to the highest temperature for the type of fabric. Place it painted side down on a piece of aluminum foil on top of your ironing board. It should usually only take 15-25 seconds to set the paint in each section. You should, however, follow the instructions on the fabric paint (or medium) you choose.

OUR STENCIL PLASTIC
Our stencils are made from a very sturdy (11-mil) clear plastic. You can reuse it, rinse it (best while paint is still wet) and keep it in storage to use later.

OLIVE LEAF STENCILS
Olive Leaf Stencils was born out of a desire to provide unique stencil designs amid the sea of generic-looking clip art stencils that you'll find at craft stores. Our company was founded by Cate Tinsley, a painter and fine artist from New York. Our stencils have been created from her freehand, original drawings. This is what sets Olive Leaf Stencils apart. We hope to inspire everyone to discover the artist within while experimenting with our stencils. They're reusable, so you can't go wrong!

FAQ:

How long will it take to ship my order?

We ship USPS Priority which takes 2-3 business days. USPS Priority International takes 6-10 business days. Handling time is 1 to 3 business days.

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards and Paypal.
Checks and Money Orders are also acceptable. Just email us (olive@oliveleafstencils.com) with your order and we will email you an invoice to mail with your check/money order.

Can anyone stencil?

Absolutely! Stenciling is easy and fun. Every stencil order comes with instructions and techniques. Those who are new to stenciling, or feel they have little artistic ability may first want to try stenciling using a mini roller. All you have to do is affix your stencil to the wall and roll over it with a little paint. The Allover/Damask patterns have registration marks (little dots) in all the corners so that you will have no trouble lining up your stencil properly.

What supplies will I need?

PAINT: Acrylic or Latex interior or craft paint.
PAINT TRAY: If you are using a roller, a regular or mini paint tray is best. If you are using a sponge or stencil brush, a paper or styrofoam plate will work.
BLUE PAINTER'S TAPE (LOW TACK) or SPRAY ADHESIVE: This kind of tape will not strip paint off your walls. If you are using a very delicate stencil, it is easier to get it perfectly flat on the wall with spray adhesive (Elmer's makes one that is gentle on walls).
MINI DENSE FOAM ROLLER: The 4-inch size is the easiest to use for large or repeating stencils. They can be purchased at most hardware stores and cost between $3 and $5.
STENCIL BRUSH: If you are using small stencils, or want to do a gradient or shading, you will need a stencil brush with a flat head for dabbing (you never use a sweeping motion because that can cause paint to seep under the stencil). You can also use a foam sponge if you want a textured look.
PAPER TOWELS: You will need to blot a lot of paint from your roller or brush before applying it to the wall, so you should have a stack of paper towels ready.
Q-TIPS and WATER: In case you get paint bleeding behind the stencil, you should be ready with water and Q-Tips for easy cleanup.

Can I reuse my stencil?

Yes. Our stencils are made of very strong plastic (11 mil) and can be used over and over. You can paint over them several times before they'll need washing. Then you can wash them in warm soapy water to be reused again. If you store them nice and flat, they will last for years to come.

What if I rip or tear my stencil?

You can easily repair your stencil with scotch tape or packing tape.

Do you make custom stencils?

We can custom size most of our stencils (smaller is preferred). Sorry, we are not currently making custom designs.
