Item details

These dragon scale swatches are a perfect addition to any costume - for adults and children alike. The swatches make it easy to sew into a shirt, on a backpack, on gloves, or anything!

Each fabric swatch is about 7 inches by 9 inches with 51 dragon scales 3D printed into the fabric. (Check out our other listing with 24 scales per swatch.) The scales measure 21.545mm (0.84 inch) high, 36.104mm (1.4 inches) deep from the tip of the scale to the back of the scale, and 21.959mm (0.86 inch) wide across the base of the scale and are centered within the 7 x 9 inch fabric. Order as many swatches necessary to create the perfect costume.

Scales are 3D printed in your color choice with rigid biodegradable PLA filament on off-white mesh fabric with larger pores in the fabric, or black or orange tulle fabric with smaller pores. The scales can be painted with acrylic paints.

Dragon Scales are designed by ShoreyDesigns and is licensed under the Creative Commons - Attribution license ( and printed by Bits 3D and Pieces.

3D printed items are not heat-resistant. Although PLA plastic can withstand temperatures up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 Celsius), it can become soft if put in dishwasher, hot water, or even left in a car on a warm day.

Wash 3D prints with a cloth of warm water and mild soap. Most prints are not water-tight.

If a part breaks, you can glue it back together with superglue, Loc-tite gel, epoxy, or any other glue safe for plastics.
3D printed items can be painted with acrylic paints or any other paints that are safe for plastic or PLA plastic. It is recommended that they are primed first. Use of model car paints or spray paint for plastics work well.

If you want to remove visible layer lines, you can sand prior to priming. If sanding removes the natural color from a print, it can sometimes be restored by rubbing olive oil on it. Note that most items are not completely solid and only have approximately a 1mm solid surface so be cautious to not sand down too many layers.
