Vintage 1920s 1930s sewing / needlework / needlecraft / knitting book

The Book of Good Needlework Number 4
Published by 'Good Needlework Magazine' and The Amalgamated Press Ltd, London, UK
Undated but dating from the late 1920s or early 1930s

Large format hardback book - approx. 8.5" x 11" (approx. 21.5cm x 28cm) - 160 pages (including index) - printed on good quality paper - illustrated with drawings and black and white photographs in the main (plus a coloured frontispiece)

This is an absolutely amazing book - a real treat if you are a fan of needlework projects dating from this period. A broad range of sewing techniques are included: applique, cut work, crochet, simple embroidery stitches, flower making, and doll making (including knitted clothing). Specific projects include 'crinoline lady' appliques, a thatched cottage tea cosy, a knitted 'Little Red Riding Hood' outfit for a doll, a sewing bag, a teddy pyjamas case, hanky sachets, as well as numerous linens for the home
Please note that many of the projects required transfers that had to be purchased separately. However, the instructions/illustrations are clear and it should be possible for the experienced needlewoman to replicate most of the designs without the use of transfers

If you would like further information on the contents of this book before purchasing please feel free to ask

Please note that this is a UK publication and that adjustments may need to be made by international knitters/crocheters (e.g. knitting needle/pin/crochet hook sizes and crochet abbreviations)

In good condition. The front and back hinges have started to crack but are still holding tight. Due to the heavy paper, the binding on these volumes was prone to splitting - this copy is actually quite good. Fading to spine. Scuffing to cover, especially at outer edges and corners. Some staining/discolouration to front cover. Several diagonal creases to front endpaper. General age discolouration and tanning throughout. Internal pages are good with no major flaws - no stains, tears or annotations

Apologies for the high shipping costs - this is a VERY heavy book and will be expensive to post overseas. It will need to be well packaged too
I have estimated the shipping charges. If I find that I have grossly over-estimated the shipping charges (after allowing a small amount for packaging) I will, of course, refund the difference. I do offer a discount for combined shipping, though this is difficult to estimate precisely at time of listing

Any questions, please feel free to ask
