Living in Canada, it's sometimes so cold all you want to do is wrap yourself up in blanket..which is fine when you're at home on the couch, but is slightly less socially acceptable when out in public.

This piece came from the idea of having that cozy wrapped up feeling, while avoiding looking homeless. The design starts with an enormous rectangle of wool fabric. For this particular design I've chosen a GORGEOUS medium weight wool in a Navajo pattern. The design is so wide I use the fabric from edge to edge, and there is almost NO wasted fabric, the armholes are the only things that are cut away. The top and bottom edges of the blanket are naturally finished when the fabric is created (this is called the selvedge) while the side edges are left raw. I choose wools with rather tight weaves so they will not unravel too much over time, and I have pulled out a few rows of threads to further reduce unravelling later on.

I've fitted the blanket to the body a bit at the shoulders using sunburst darts, which also adds fullness and drape to the front of the cardigan.

The sleeves are a chunky rib knit, lined with super soft heather grey jersey. This colour combo uses vintage rib knit in navy blue with small specs of colour.

This version of the Blanket Cardigan is extra special! My friend Michelle from www.kingdomofstyle.typepad.co.uk contacted me about making her a special version of this piece with the inclusion of some military details. That's her modelling the piece in the pics, and I think it came out PERFECT! We're both very happy with the results and I hope she gets TONNES of wear out of it!

Since this item is incredibly drapy it fits a lot of people and does not need to be sized regularly. The change in fit will be based on the distance between the armholes, and can therefore be judged by shoulder width.

The size S/M will fit a shoulder width of 13-15"
The size M/L will fit a shoulder width of 16-18"

This item is made to order so please allow 3 days-2 weeks for sewing. I do my best to finish all my items as quickly as possible, however if I've received a lot of orders at once it will sometimes take me a little time to get through them all. At the time that I receive your order I will shoot you a confirmation e-mail including my expected timeline for completing your order. Thanks for understanding the challenges of a one woman show!
